Jan and Feb 2010 Road Report

February 11th, 2010 by Scott

“Alcohol may be man’s worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy. “ -~Frank Sinatra

Just when you thought it was safe to come to our shows…HE’S BAAAACKK!!! AL the Driver is back in the band full-time! Straight out of orange juice rehab and kicking the bass drum like a Mexican street dog.

After some contemplation, a few schedule workarounds and the lure of chocolate cake and big glass of milk The Driver is back in the freak show he helped create. Thanks to Jeff for his time in the band.

So what have the boys been up to since we last caught up, it was a home sweet home at James St. Old friends, new friends and old OLD friends were out in abundance to catch the craziness that is always a show in the 613.

Many thanks to James St for letting us let loose on Downtown and their bar packed full of rockers.

After that it was our first foray in Kingston at the Draught House on Bath St. Huge thanks to Mike and his ladies for their hospitality and the multiple shots of Sambuca as the dance floor pumped away the entire night, we look forward to heading back in the near future.

So, did you hear…Let us Repeat AL IS BACK! And what better place to have a second coming of The Driver than our home away from home, THE PHOENIX! King Street will be the next scene of the crime, Feb19th and 20 and as always, get there early, or you may not get in at all!

Many thanks to our family, friends, fans and beer for helping us do what you want us to do, and that’s ROCK YOU!

The Rob, Scotty, Steve and Al The Driver!

NYE and Jan 2010 Road Report

January 22nd, 2010 by Scott

“Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.” ~ Oscar Wilde

THE FUNDS HAVE BEEN RELEASED!!! or was it the hounds?

Well a Happy New Year to everyone and a blur of an eve for most as SGK played their 1st Dec. 31st in a dogs age, judging by the packed house there were a couple hundred hungover people the following day.The snow fell and the drinks were plenty as the party went past 3am, though most in the band had little recollection past Auld Lang Syne.

Many applause to the contest winners who walked away with shirts , hats and swag and even came back out 2 nights later to get their asses rocked once again.

BIG BIG thanks to Big Al for coming out for some old school Shotgun Kiss ( and the rose delivery, we owe ya Driver!) the staff, management…our 2nd family on king st for making this a year to remember and a great year to come, we’ll see you seaway folks soon!

The boyz have played a gig in Almonte at JR’s since the debacle and as always appreciate the hospitality at our favorite pub off the 417 ( Best comment of the night…it smells like fuel in here!)

Thanks to all the boys on their sleds for showing up in the latest snowpant fashion and promptly showing off their PJ’s underneath…What a night!

Now that SGK have had time to rest up for what can only be described as…

NEW YEARS EVE AGAIN!!!!

January 30th at the James St pub on Bank St will be the scene, no tickets needed for this one but it will be the return back after many months and the year has only just begun…WE have only just begun!

See you there!

Much love to our families for putting up with us, our fans that come support us and beer.

The Rob, Scotty, Zippy, and Jeff

November/December 2009 Road Report

December 10th, 2009 by Scott

”My mom said she learned how to swim. Someone took her out in the lake and threw her off the boat. That’s how she learned how to swim. I said,
‘Mom, they weren’t trying to teach you how to swim.’ ”
~Paula Poundstone

Sink or Swim sums up SGK and their mantra as they take the stage…

New comer drummer Jeff learned quickly and didn’t disappoint the packed bar on King St…

2 nights of unstoppable rock and a rabid dance floor gave us boys a sneak peek of what Dec. 31st’s countdown is going to bring and are hard working away at introducing Jeff to our set-lists, fans and the absolute blast we have performing for everyone.

Many thanks to all at the bar , working the bar to keep us safe and liquored and to the management for allowing us this year to say yes to their offer of ringing in 2010 the only way it should be…SHOTGUN KISS STYLE!

See all of our seaway friends soon.

Now , to an event we thought would never happen again…he’s baaaaacckk!

The weekend before last saw Big Al Dover behind the kit in Renfrew as the new guy mercifully pounded away in practice hell preparing for the future. Mucho thanks to Al for kicking it with us one last time…Never forgotten and always in our rock and roll hearts the driver shall remain!

What can we say , always a great time in the frew, many thanks to Tina and her girls for showing us that valley hospitality and a party 35 steps closer to heaven! Also thanks for the guys from Hyrd Gunz for coming out Friday night to party with us and even get up and play a tune.

See ya’ll in 2010 Huxley’s!

Next up…..the last( ish) show of 2009…in Hometown O-Town.

Finnigans on Montreal Road will be the scene of the crime, and if it’s anything like last time you’ll want to get there early and get your drink on.

Come say hi to the new guy, the old guys, all the guys!

See you Sat night!

As always, Thank you for all your support!

ShotGun Kiss Returns to Renfrew for a Kick A$$ Time!

November 22nd, 2009 by Scott

27th and 28th, 2009 – Huxley’s – Renfrew, Ont. Facebook Event

This coming weekend, we head to beautiful Renfrew to play one of our favourite places. We’re looking forward to playing @ Huxley’s on Main.

This this weekend marks Allan Dover’s last gig with us. Allan has decided to take a break from playing music and concentrate on his career and family. We’re going to miss Allan, as he’s been a true leader for the band and has poured his heart into playing music with the guys and myself. The band has found a replacement for Allan. Jeff Dupont will take over the drum kit for the band as of the Dec 4th & 5th, 2009 in Brockville.

This should stack up to a great weekend of Full Throttle Rock and Roll!

Hope to see you all there.

ShotGun Kiss – Scott, Rob, Steve and last but not least “The Great Allan Dover”.

Thanks for all your support!

Oct Road Report 3 – Finnigan’s in Ottawa

October 31st, 2009 by Scott

“Nothing anyone says in a bar is true.” ~ Mark Ruffalo

Wow…all we can say is WOW!

What a night, Big Al the Driver’s last night behind the musical bus that is ShotgunKiss and what a night it was…people from far and wide made their way out to our first show at Finnigans since before the summer and were treated to a debauchery of ear pounding night of rock.

Now for the not so well kept secret , yes it is true The Driver , Al will be leaving the band , and will be truly truly missed…always family, always our brother. It’s been a wild and wacky yet successful journey for him since he and Scotty started this crazy idea of bringing arena fun rock to stages in and around Ottawa and could never have been as amazing and popular as SGK has become without his hard work , dedication and countless hours ( years!) put in driving many miles, lugging pounds of gear and shaking hands/kissing babies!

Maybe, just maaaaybe we can convince him to play one more gig with the boyz at James St Pub on Nov. 14th
Whatya think …wanna see Al pound those skins one more time before a replacement is unveiled???

Let him or the band know…let start a WE WANT AL campaign!

James St Pub is next just off Bank St …do you want Al?
We want Al
WE WANT AL
WE WANT AL!

And we want all of you there!

As always, Thank you for all your support!

The Rob, Scotty, Steve, and Al The Driver!

“The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” ~ Oscar Wilde

And what is everyone talking about???

SHOTGUN KISS COMING BACK TO OTTAWA!!!

1st things first and last things…well first.

JR’s was hopping as the Sens beat the Habs into submission and the boyz of rock beat the patrons ears, hearts and dancin’ shoes with a thunder that could be heard from Arnprior to Carleton Place and places in between.

Many thanks to the folks who made the trek down the 401, 416 and 417 to see us and to Amanda at the bar who was on her toes and all smiles as she kept us all full of alcohol filled bevys and cake, yes even CAKE! ( Actually it was a moose…errr mousse!) We’ll see y’all in the new year and thanks as always to Jeff and all his staff for treating us like close family when we are in town…

Now…

Here it is…

You’ve slept all summer
You’ve locked up the kids
And now yer wonderin’ where the azz kickin’ is

Mamma we’re comin’ hooooooooome!

We have been waiting for this as much as you have, get ready for a night of unstoppable, unbelievable and unpredictable moments as we unbosom the only way we can…Shotgun Kiss style! ( oh yeah…we said bosom!)

Oct Road Report 1 – Brockville, Ont.

October 9th, 2009 by Scott

“I believe if life gives you lemons make lemonade…then find someone that life gave vodka to and have a party.” ~ Ron White

Shotgun Kiss rode back into the seaway this past weekend and set up their lemonade stand serving out bitter-sweet rock and roll as only they do…In a tall glass with very little ice!

2 nights of over the top music as people inside danced the night away double fisting drinks and a lineup outside stomping their feet to get in. Not even a spill off the top rope could stop the boyz from pounding out the tunes and driving the bar into a sweaty frenzy of azz shakin’ and rib cage rattling from front to back.

Always we gotta thank our tanks at the doors, Steve-O, Gino, Hendo ( any others that end with an O? )and the girls at the bar-o for keeping us hydrated to the point of near poison!

We’ll see you all again in early December and who knows…maybe shortly after that ;)

Where to now you ask?…

Almonte-o as JR’s will be the next Rock and Roll crime scene on October 17 and plan now for the weekend after as we make our way home to Ottawa…

you have been forewarned!!!

See ya’ll there!

Sept. 2009 Road Report (Huxley’s on Main)

September 29th, 2009 by Scott

“It’s a shallow life that doesn’t give a person a few scars.” ~ Garrison Keillor

The lights came on, the music started to roar and the bar came to life last weekend at Huxleys! The boyz delivered that pounding , heart pumping sound that only Shotgun Kiss can…and then it happened… If you were there, you know what happened, if you weren’t all we can say is The Full Monty (python of Nausea) was seen! As they say “The show must go on” and so it did amidst laughter, tears and the like.

Huuuge thanks to Tina and her girls ( yes, that means you too Adam and the big guys at the door!) for always treating us like family and showing us why your bar is the place to be every weekend if you are in Renfrew, Cali or the Prior…

Good times had by all. We look forward to our next adventure up those stairs into the sacred place of Rock and Roll in the valley!

Next up, BATTER UP…

Aug’09 – Road Report 2

August 26th, 2009 by Scott

“Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.” ~ Ada Louise Huxtable

All was right on the hot weekend nights when the boyz peeled off the 401 and ripped up King St once again in a way only they can…NO HOLDS BARRED!

Line ups before midnight, drinks double fisted and trays of Dr. Jager being brought to the stage before the last one was toasted. We can never say it sincerely enough about our home away from home, but thanks, Mucho thanks to all of you who came out and watched some Thunder Valley style Rock and Roll and sweat the dance floor into a frenzy.

Thanks to Trooper Britt,Jess,Steve-O and the goons ( and that handsome duo of Hendo and Gino) for always making us feel at home and chomping at the bit to come back. We’ll see you again in early October.

Next up for SGK kids is a private function, details and review may be limited at the request of the party organizer, but you know facebook, someone’s gonna tag someone somehow compromised!!!

Next Public appearance will be in the Renfrew at Huxleys unless the boys somehow squeeze a show here or there during our usually busy September lives…

Be sure to check out the new dates in Ottawa freshly added…and KEEP ROCKIN’ !!!

As always, Thank you for all your support!

“It’s like gambling somehow. You go out for a night of drinking and you don’t know where your going to end up the next day. It could work out good or it could be disastrous. It’s like the throw of the dice.”~ Jim Morrison

Almonte was the place to be for some sick UFC and SK action on any one of their gazillion flat screens, Saturday’s alright for fighting, and we sure got a lot of action in!

First off we must apologize for once again trying to empty the bar of Bud Light Lime…but damn that beer goes down like water…JR’s is da man with the lil green cans!!!!!(And the Jack Daniels was gone by 1am ;)

Mucho Gracias to all who came out dancing and squeezed in a fistful of liquor keeping Amanda on her toes till closing. Big hand for Patty adding Shotgun Kiss to his All Star list of celebrity appearance sit ins.

We’ll see ya’ll in the fall and already can’t wait to go back.

Up next…oh jeeebuss, no, please no, say it ain’t …..

BROCKVEGAS IN AUGUST!!! Anyone remember last August on KiNG sT? 40+ degrees, everyone was drenched, jumping in the river between sets and screaming for more, well here we go again and we are STOKED!

August 21 & 22 @ The Phoenix Get there early or you won’t get in!

As always, Thank you for all your support!

Weekend Update and Road Report for June and July 2009

July 29th, 2009 by Scott

“When you confront your own shadow in all its incarnations, you’re inside rock n roll. When you do it musically, onstage , in a terrible wonderful chilling contact with your audience , encouraging them to stir some measure of their shadow into the spiraling maelstrom, then you’re a rock star.” ~ Timothy White, ‘Rock Lives’

Where to begin with an update, it’s been a while!

The boyz rolled off the 401 to their 2nd home and brought The Phoenix to it’s quivering knees once again with 2 nights of over the top, in your face 50 degrees of sweaty rock as only they can in the seaway. Birthdays and brides and shots by the tray full were in abundance and the dance floor was a sea of moving screaming wet bodies…Hell and the devil would only be so lucky to have made in those doors that night.

Many thanks to Britt, Jessie Joe, Steve-O and all our favorite goons for keeping us liquored, safe and mostly on time ;)
We’ll see you all again at the end of August!

Then the four Horsemen took a few weeks off to learn some new n old songs, hit a few cottages and some killer shows at Bluesfest and Riverfest.

When they were “fested” out and ready to spew some of their own medicine they climbed the mountain of steps in the Valley and put the ol’ rock n roll boots to Renfrew.

Torrential downpours and a couple of sniffling noses couldn’t keep ‘em from pounding the stage and ears of all those who came out and danced the night away ( on the bar in some cases!)

Big thanks to Tina , Shawna and Lisa as well as the big lads for showing us a great time and treating us like family as always.

NEXT>>> JR’s in Almonte on August 8th is the place to be…Ample free 4 wheeler parking, here’s hoping they still have Bud Light Lime, See ya’ll there!

As always, Thank you for all your support!

The Rob, Scotty, Steve, and Al The Driver!

“There are times when silence has the loudest voice”

June 16th, 2009 by Scott

“There are times when silence has the loudest voice” ~
Leroy Brownlow

…Not a creature was stirring, not even a…”Way to go Al…you made our only 2 fans drop a 50 and leave!”

All that starts quiet with SGK never seems to end quiet as the boys made their way to Almonte , down a few stairs and downed a few new Budlight limes in the process. The night took us back to our roots as the dinner and espresso show got off to an ear ringing, Nascar watching night.

After a few songs and some Swedish shots at the bar the people came…almost as if a bus pulled up, wait, it did, THE BACHOLRETTE PARTY BUS! Stacy and her crew of plastic privates packed the dancefloor and JR’s was hoppin’ in a way only people from the outskirts can…

Many thanks as always to Jeff and his crew for having us out and treating us like royalty…we look forward to each and gig we play in Almonte’s party Mecca.

Where to next…

Now those duke boys, just don’t know what they got theirselves into.
BROCKVEGAS!!!

The Phoenix on King ST in Brockville will be the next scene of the crime, and we can’t stress this enuff , get their early or you won’t get in at all…

See ya’ll in a short while with some new songs, new chops and same ol’ ‘time you love and get right crazed to…a Shotgun Kiss time!

Rob, Scott, Allan and Steve

Milestones and Party Animals @ Huxley’s

June 5th, 2009 by Scott

Thanks to all who came out to Huxley’s this past weekend. It was another great weekend of music and drinks.

Big thank you to Tina, Shawna, Adam, Steve and all the other staff from Huxley’s. We’ve played @ Huxley’s 9 different weekends and every time we roll into town, our friends from Renfrew come out and party with us. It’s great to see a lot of the same faces again and again and also meet a ton of new friends.  We’ve added some pics from the weekend as well as some pics from previous shows the past year.

Also big shout out to Jason and Jeff from Hyrd Gunz and The guys from Half Cutt. It’s great to talk to other bands out there on the scene and share stories and chat shop.

We truly appreciate your support and look forward to returning to Huxley’s again in July 2009, which will mark our 10th visit to the most rocking spot in Renfrew.

We brought a bunch of new songs from the past and some new material. We’ve spent time looking at our song list and are adding songs that aren’t overplayed or out of date. We pride ourselves with playing material we and you want to hear and stuff that other bands aren’t overplaying.

We’re interested in your input if you have a song you’d like us to play, please send your suggestion to us via email “info@shotgunkiss.com“, Twitterwww.twitter.com/shotgunkiss” and hit us up on Facebook.

This past weekend we hit couple of milestones for SGK, first this past weekend was our 125th gig since the band started in 2005. Second it was also Rob’s 90th gig with the band and Steve’s 10th gig since joining in Feb 2009. I can’t believe that we’re been at this since 2005, time fly’s.

We’ve played 13 Shows in 2005, 32 Shows in 2006, and 30 Shows in 2007, 36 Shows in 2008 and so far 14 Shows and 18 to 20 shows left for a total of at least 34 shows.

The band made a decision when started that we would only play 2 weekends a month. It would allow us to still have time for our personal live and also not burn out the band. We’ve pretty much stuck to our decision and look it makes playing shows more rewarding as we’re fresh and look forward to getting to the show and meeting people.

There are only a few open dates left in 2009 and then we’ll be setting our sites on 2010. We’ll soon be announcing what we’re doing for New Years Eve. We’ve listened to our friends and fans and have decided to play on New Years Eve this year.

We’re also going to look at booking more shows in Ottawa in the future and work ourselves into the Ottawa live music market. We’ve got great friends in Ottawa and they have asked us to play more shows @ Home.

Thank you for all you support!

The Rob, Scotty, Steve, and Al The Driver!

James Street Pub Show Update

May 15th, 2009 by Scott

” Many a man who thinks to found a home discovers that he has merely opened a tavern for his friends” ~ Norman Douglas

AND THE OPEN BAR SIGN SAYS DRINK UP!

The Boyz pulled up to the disaster zone of Bank St construction, through the back door and the stage was set for another night of blistering hot Rock and Roll to all of our Brockville, Brantford and Toronto friends…wait, what the hell…I thought we were playing at home???

HUUUGE thanks to all of those who made the hour + trek to see us for our first time at James St…And an even bigger thanks as always to our hometown friends for supporting us and showing James St Pub and their massive patio why we are the best time since your first feel up in the back seat of your parents car!

We look forward to playing there again and rockin’ Jim at the bar and the bouncers at the door until the wee hours.

How do we top a 40 degree night in early May…Down the 417 and UP the stairs to rock out with our great friends and family in Renfrew…Huxley’s, it’s been a while, are you ready for the new tunes and the ear splitting rawk?…You know we are, see you at the end of the month!

As always, thanks to all you, our friends, fans and family for all your support,
The Rob, Scotty, Steve and Al the Driver
